Village Creek Paddling Trail
The Texas Paddling Trails is a program to develop public inland and coastal paddling trails throughout the state and support these trails with maps, signage and other information. These trails provide well-mapped accessible day trips in a variety of settings and for all levels of paddling experience. Village Creek became the 19th Texas Paddling Trail on May 11, 2010.
Village Creek Paddling Trail is a 21-mile trail that has multiple access sites to help you create the best float time for you, whether you are looking for an easy one-hour paddle or an all day outdoors experience. With beautiful white sandy beaches and sandbars, amazing wildlife diversity and tall East Texas trees, this beautiful trail is not to be missed.
Village Creek is a flat-water stream with several smaller streams, oxbow lakes, and sloughs connected to the creek. Although there are no human built obstructions on this stream, there may be snags, logjams, and sandbars to avoid or portage around, especially when water levels are low. Heavy rains and high water can create dangerous conditions and deceivingly swift currents. Paddling time can vary depending upon water levels and flow rates. Individual segments of the trail can be paddled in 2 to 5 hours of paddling. The entire trail is too long to paddle in one day. Overnight camping permits are free and available at the Big Thicket National Preserve Visitor Center.

Lumberton Community Park & Playground
The park, which was built in 2000 and funded by the Lumberton Industrial Corporation, is a joint project of the City of Lumberton and the Lumberton Independent School District.
The park is located on the corner of Village Creek Parkway and East Candlestick, next to the Lumberton Primary School.
Amenities of the park include playground equipment, tennis courts, a covered basketball pavilion, a quarter mile walking track, and a covered gazebo pavilion that can be reserved for gatherings by calling the City of Lumberton at (409) 755-3700.
While at the park, be sure and visit the memorial to honor all veterans and victims of 911. Another point of interest is the area that contains the 1936 rustic stone picnic tables and cooking pits that were donated to the city when the original roadside park site on Hwy. 69 was closed by the State of Texas.
The playground equipment in the park is utilized by the primary school and therefore the park is closed on school days from 7:30 am - 2:30 pm.

Freedom Park
Freedom Park, located on the city complex, was built in 2005 and offers a beautiful gazebo and park benches to enjoy. The gazebo can be reserved for small gatherings by calling the City of Lumberton at (409) 755-3700. The gazebo has become a favorite spot for many small weddings and photo shoots.
